Return unwanted purchases with UPS.

The United Parcel Service (UPS) provides shipping and receiving services much like the United States Postal Service (USPS). This domestic and international shipping business processes and ships millions of parcels and letters daily, some of which are returned purchases. If you have recently purchased an item that you no longer desire, returning it via UPS insures that your purchase gets returned carefully and timely.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the criteria for returning your purchase. If you made a purchase from an online retailer, they may have a specific procedure for processing returns, such as obtaining a Return Merchandize Authorization (RMA) number via the seller's website and using the return shipping label inside the box.

    • 2

Attach the shipping label onto the purchase box. If the seller is paying for shipping, he will include a return shipping label sticker within the box. Place the return label clearly over the first label or remove the first label first.

    • 3

Take your package to your local authorized UPS store. If the seller does not pay for shipping, you will have to purchase postage at the UPS store. Bring the return address as a reference. If you have already paid for shipping either online or with a pre-paid return label, you can use the UPS drop boxes located around your area.

    • 4

Purchase an optional tracking number for an additional fee. The tracking number will track your package through every UPS facility scan that occurs during the transport of your package. Once your package has been delivered back to the seller, the status will display "Item Received on (date and time)."
