How to Get More Decibels From a Subwoofer

A decibel, commonly writen as dB, is a unit of measurement that is used to express the intensity of a sound wave. With sound waves, the amount of decibels measured from an outboard boat motor is around 80 decibels, while the space shuttle launch is measured at an ear-shattering 180 decibels, 20 decibels beyond where the eardrum tears. To get more decibels from a subwoofer, adjust the dB setting on your amplifier, which usually is a screw or knob on the back of the amp head unit.

View the back side of the subwoofer's amplifier, where the adjustment knobs and switches are located.
