How to Get Albanian Citizenship

Albania allows for dual citizenship, which means a person can hold the nationality of two different countries. A dual citizen can enjoy the benefits of both countries and travel on two different passports. To obtain Albanian citizenship, you must legally move there, setup a residence, find a suitable job and abide by Albania's laws for five years. Once you meed the five-year residency requirement, you may begin the lengthy process of applying for Albanian citizenship.

      Visit the Albania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MFA, website. Search its database to locate the nearest MFA office. Call, email or ask an MFA clerk in person for a citizenship application.

      Gather all required documents, including bank statements, proof of employment, birth certificate, original passport and proof of a suitable living situation. Make two copies of each document.

      Complete the application in Albanian. Bring the application to the nearest MFA office, and pay any applicable fees.

      Receive notice that your application is being processed, and then receive notice that the application has been approved. The process may take several months.

      Schedule a time and date to take the Albanian language test. Your approval notice contains information about scheduling the test. Pass the language test, then take an oath to Albania.

      Receive your citizenship certificate.
