How to Customize Powerpoint Presentations

Within moments of opening the Microsoft PowerPoint software, it is possible to be up and running with a presentation, due to the program's included themes and templates. But when an already-created slideshow just doesn't fit the bill, customize the presentation with some of PowerPoint's features. Adding personal touches to a PowerPoint may be a simple image insertion or a complete overhaul of the slides' appearances.

Instructions

    • 1

Open PowerPoint. Click the "File" tab. Click "Open." Locate the presentation to customize and double-click its file name. The presentation opens. The first slide or title slide shows in the main pane.

    • 2

Click a slide. Click the "Insert" tab. Click the "Picture" button below the tab. Browse to a digital image, such as an electronic version of the business logo, and double-click it to add it to the slide. Drag the image into place as preferred on the slide.

    • 3

Click the "Design" tab. If the slide already has a theme, it will be highlighted in the "Themes" section of the ribbon. Click any other theme to change the theme, which includes the background and text rendering.

    • 4

Change the background of the slide by clicking the "Background Styles" menu and selecting one of the new background options or clicking "Format Background" and adding a custom design.

    • 5

Highlight any generic placeholder text on the slide, such as "Your Title Here," and type directly over the text with your own custom text. Click the "Home" tab. Highlight the text again and change the font, size or color of the words. Repeat to change the appearance of or add more text to the slides.

    • 6

Add artwork to the slide from PowerPoint's collection by clicking the "Insert" tab and clicking the "Clip Art" button below the tab. Search the database for something that goes along with the slide topic. Double-click a picture to add it to the slide.

    • 7

Click the "File" tab. Click "Save As." Type a new name for the presentation. Select a place to save it on the computer or leave the default. Click "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • To enable these customizations to appear on every single slide instead of a single one, click the "View" tab and click the "Slide Master" button on the ribbon. All customizations will affect the entire presentation.
