How to Restore Desktop Appearance Settings

Microsoft Windows allows you to customize many aspects of the desktop. You can change the background image, the toolbar colors, window colors, the sound effects, screen savers and more. If you've adjust the desktop appearance but now wish to restore the appearance to its default, you can easily make that change. The default appearance is saved as a Desktop Theme and selecting the default theme restores all customizable elements to their default settings.

Instructions

1. Right-click an empty area of your desktop, then select "Personalize." This opens the Appearance and Personalization control panel.

2. Click "Theme." Select the "Windows 7 Aero Theme." This is the default theme that the operating system is loaded with. It will restore your desktop appearance to the default settings.

3. Click "Save Changes" to save the restored theme.
