How to Troubleshoot Sharp Copiers

Out-of-date and newer Sharp copiers have one thing in common: usually, when things go wrong, an error code displays. Additionally, at least one or more lamp indicators will blink. It is common for the copier to be in the "Auto-Power Shut Off" mode or the "Scan Head" set in the locked position. A "System Error" may also occur. Although the machine will not function in any one of these situations, try a few troubleshooting techniques to fix it.

  • Follow the prompts on the display to remove jams, close covers or replace the toner drum cartridge. If the copier does not turn on, go to the next step. If "System Error [XX -XX] Refer To User Guide" appears on the display, go to step 5.

  • Press the "Start" key to verify that the machine is not in "Auto-Power Shut Off" mode. The "Power Saver" indicator will be on while all of the other lights will be off. If the copier does not function, go to the next step.

  • Grasp the "Scan Head" locking switch located underneath the document glass and turn it horizontally, or clockwise, to unlock it.

  • Turn on the copier. If the copier does not function, stop here and contact Sharp for further assistance. Otherwise, go to the next step.

  • Turn the "Power Switch" off and then wait 30 seconds.

  • Turn the "Power Switch" back on. If the error message is still displayed, turn the "Power Switch" off and contact Sharp.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use non-genuine Sharp parts to increase the longevity of your copier. Sharp product warranties may also become invalid if a system failure occurs when non-genuine items are used.
