How to Make Pilgrim Costumes for Boys & Girls

When the holidays roll around, sometimes you need to come up with a costume for a party or a play. If your children need a costume for a Thanksgiving event, dressing as Pilgrims is an obvious choice. You don't need to purchase Pilgrim costumes from a local costume shop; you can easily make the outfits yourself using things you already have or items you can find at a craft store or thrift shop.

Instructions

  1. Pilgrim Boy Costume

    • 1

Cut the black sweat pants so that they come just below the knee on the boy. Pair the pants with a black, long-sleeved tunic-style shirt.

    • 2

Have the boy wear a pair of long white socks that come up to the bottom of the pants, and pair them with a pair of black shoes.

    • 3

Cut buckle shapes out of a piece of yellow cardboard. Glue a yellow buckle onto the cuff of each sleeve. Glue another buckle onto each black shoe.

    • 4

Cut a 1-inch strip out of white poster board that is long enough to fit around the brim of the hat. Glue the white poster board onto the hat. Add a yellow buckle onto the front of the hat.

    Pilgrim Girl Costume

    • 5

Have the girl wear a long, long-sleeved black dress as the base of the costume. Pair the dress with white stockings and a pair of simple black shoes.

    • 6

Tie a plain white apron over the dress.

    • 7

Complete the girl's costume with a simple white bonnet tied underneath her chin.
