How to Do a Self-Promotion Package
Most professionals know they need a self-promotion package but get stuck when it comes time to create and assemble one. It may help to put yourself in the shoes of your potential client or customer -- the people who will review the contents of your package when they have time. The trick is to give them enough information about you so that they feel confident in your abilities but not overload (or worse, bore) them. Packages cost money, and you want to create a keeper.

1
Hire a graphic designer to create the materials in your package if you are not proficient with graphic design software. It pays to invest money in these materials, especially because they should enjoy a long shelf life if created properly. Directly supervise the creation of the content.

2
Ensure that all of the materials in your self-promotion package look like they belong together. One way to create symmetry is to choose and use similar colors. Refer to your logo for inspiration. If your logo is light green and gray, integrate these colors as much as you can in the materials in your package, for example, in headline text, borders and background colors.

3
Select a professional-looking presentation folder. Two-pocket folders that high school students use may be inexpensive, but they probably don't convey the image you want to take root in the minds of your potential clients or customers. Spend a little more money on a folder that includes a cut-out on the front -- so you can personalize it -- as well as a cutout on the inside for your business card.
-
4
Envision your self-promotion package as a snapshot, of sorts, of you and your business. In this spirit, mentally separate the package in two parts: delegate the right side of the package for biographical information and the left side for information about your business and/or services.
-
5
Place a condensed version of your resume, including a picture, on the right side of the package. It is important that this be the first piece of paper that prospective clients or customers see. Keep this page to one sheet. Ideally, highlight your background, education and professional accomplishments in easy-to-read boxes. Remember that people don't want to read a multiple-page resume or vitae; they want to read only the most relevant information about you.
-
6
Place any other personal information behind this top sheet on the right side of the package. Include such materials as press releases, announcements of personal appearances or newspaper and magazine articles that you have been featured in.
-
7
Carefully select the materials for the left side of the package, tailoring your choices to the specific client or customer, if possible. Include such materials as brochures on your products or services, your fees and testimonials (with full names) of people who can attest to the caliber of your work.

Tips & Warnings
Self-promotion packages are an investment in your business, and they don't come cheap. Between labor, production and material costs, you will want to protect your investment and be somewhat selective about who should receive them.
