How to End a Yodel

How to End a Yodel thumbnail
Yodelling was born in the Alps.

Yodelling originated in the Bavarian Alps and involves moving from high to low notes quickly, which results in a sound that is best described as perhaps singing a yell or a shout. It consists of moving between "hoo", "hee" or "haa" sounds using your chest and falsetto voices. After you've mastered the art of yodelling, the icing on the cake is ending it properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice saying the sound "eee." Yodelling combines different sounds, and traditionally, the word "yodel-aaa-hee-eee" is used during and to end a song.

    • 2

Put your tongue upward, just behind your top front teeth but without touching them. Then, hold the same sound -- "eeee" --using your normal voice. Keep your mouth open. If you grin slightly and pull the corners of your lips back, then it will be easier.

    • 3

Experiment with different pitches by using your chest and your falsetto voice to create the sounds as you do when you sing the rest of the yodel. Push the sound out of your mouth using high and low tones.

    • 4

Practice varying the sound to enable you to have control of your "eee" sound. Do this for at least 30 minutes, or longer, and break it up over the course of a few days to perfect it.

    • 5

Sing the word "yodel-aaa-hee-eee" to end your yodel. Do it properly by singing the right end note. "Hee" is high, while the "eee" sound is a flat version of this note, not sharp. So, sing the sound "hee" and bring the tone down one step.

Finish the yodel with a bow or curtsy if you are performing in front of crowd.
