How to Make Lilies Float

How to Make Lilies Float thumbnail
A single lily can make a dramatic centerpiece when floated in a simple glass bowl.

Floating flowers in a bowl of water is one of the simplest table centerpieces to make. As long as the flowers are large enough, they will float on the surface of the water without any additional support. Once the flowers are in place they will float for hours or days, until they wilt. Floating lilies work well in large gatherings like weddings, since they are both beautiful and simple. You can also float lilies on the surface of a pool or pond. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bowl ½ to 2/3 full of lukewarm water, about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The flowers will last longer in lukewarm water than cold water.

    • 2

Cut the stems off the lilies so they are only about 1 inch long.

    • 3

Set the lilies into the water, with the stem facing the surface of the water, until they are floating on top of the water. If the lilies are too heavy to float, cut the stems shorter by ½ inch.
