How to Create Gift Registries

It's easy to set up a gift registry.

People who are getting married, having a baby or celebrating another event for which people will be buying them gifts often set up gift registries at their favorite stores or websites. Registries help friends and family members choose gifts that the person definitely needs or desires. When you set up a registry, be sure to choose a store that has lots of locations or that allows shopping on a website so that people who do not live near you can still use it.

Instructions

    • 1

Work with your partner to make a list of the things you definitely want to include on your gift registry. Think of all of the necessities, such as dishes and towels if you are getting married or onesies and receiving blankets if you are having a baby, and make a list. This will help you to remember everything that you need and keep you on task once you get to a store or register on the store's website.

Go to a store and ask to speak to a customer service representative who specializes in gift registries. Some high-end stores might have a person who will go around the store with you and help you choose items, while others might simply give you a scanning gun and let you do the job on your own.

Go to the store's website to set up your registry if you do not have time to get to the store, or if it is just more convenient for you. Set up the registry on the site and then go through their merchandise and click on the items you want to include.

Choose all sorts of items at different price levels for your registry so that people with low and high budgets have plenty of options.

    • 5

Inform your friends and family members about your registry. Do this on a wedding website or blog, but be careful to use proper etiquette when you do so. For example, you should never include registry information on a formal wedding invitation or a birth announcement. But if someone is throwing a shower for you, they can add the information with that invitation.
