Lay your Acme screw, nut or bolt on a flat surface next to a tape measure. The shaft of the screw, nut or bolt and the tape measure should be parallel to one another.

Count the number of threads that are in one inch of the shaft of the unit. This is called the "Thread Per Inch" count. This will likely be a number like 24, 30, 32 or even 48 depending on the exact size of the screw, nut or bolt being used.

Find the length of the shaft in inches and convert it to millimeters by multiplying the number by 25.4. For example, a 2-inch shaft multiplied by 25.4 equals a shaft of 50.8 millimeters. Divide this number by the number of threads on the shaft to find their spacing. For example, if the shaft has 84 threads, 50.8 divided by 84 equals a spacing of 1.65 millimeters.
