How to Hand Stitch Cards
Handmade cards show friends and family that you are not only thinking of them, but you took special time and care to create a one-of-a-kind greeting. Decorate homemade cards in several ways and with several materials. One way to give your card an especially custom and personalized look is to use stitching to embroider an image or a few words onto the front of the card.

1
Draw a shape or write a phrase on the front of a piece of pre-folded card stock. Use simple lines and draw lightly so the lines can be easily erased.
-
2
Open the card to flatten it and lay it so that your drawing is face-up on top of a foam block.
-
-
3
Poke holes along all of the pencil lines. Poke them about 1/8 inch apart.
-
4
Thread the needle with embroidery floss and knot the end of the floss.
-
5
Poke the threaded needle through one of the poked holes from the inside of the card, so the knot rests on the inside of the front of the card.
-
6
Poke the needle down through the next hole and back up from the one after that. Continue stitching through the pre-poked holes until your lines are completely stitched.
-
7
Remove the needle and knot the end of the floss on the inside of the card. Cut away the excess floss with scissors.
