A receiving blanket is a small blanket typically used to wrap up a newborn at the hospital. You can make a receiving blanket as a gift for an expectant mother or to keep for yourself. A double-sided blanket uses two fabrics on one blanket so you can switch patterns by flipping over the blanket. The technique requires only a few materials and tools to complete, making it ideal for crafting novices.
Things You'll Need
- Two fleece fabric panels
- Straight pins
Cut two pieces of fleece fabric, about 2 feet by 1 foot.
Lay the fabric pieces on top of one another, wrong sides together, lining up the edges. Secure together with two straight pins at the edge of each side.
Cut 2-inch slashes into the perimeter of the four sides, making the cuts about 1 inch apart. This creates a fringe border around the blanket.
Tie each top piece of fringe to the one directly under it, making a knot. Remove the straight pins.
Tips & Warnings
- Children can help make this blanket for a new sibling because it requires no sewing.
