How to Play an iPhone Through a Sound System


You probably tend to use your iPhone for personal tasks such as making phone calls, playing games or listening to music through your headphones. Sometimes, though, you may want to use your iPhone to share your songs. When you want to play your iPhone's music through a sound system, you can connect your phone to your speakers through the headphone jack. You will need a 3.5-mm auxiliary cable, which looks like it has a headphone plug on both ends. These are available at the Apple Store and most local electronic stores.

Things You'll Need

  • 3.5-mm auxiliary cable
  • Purchase a 3.5-mm auxiliary cable from an electronics store.

  • Plug one end of the cable into the headphone jack. Plug the other end into the AUX port on your sound system.

  • Turn on your iPhone and lower the volume to about 40 percent to prevent damage to your sound system.

  • Tap the iPod app on the home screen and select the album, artist or playlist that you want to play. Operate the iPod app as normal to play, pause, rewind and skip. Adjust your sound system volume accordingly.

  • You can also hook your iPhone up to your TV with a special Apple AV cable.
  • Some sound systems are specially designed to dock an iPhone. With these, you can simply put your iPhone on the dock and play your music.
