How to Power Cycle an Android Battery

Power cycling the battery of your Android device completely drains the charge out of the phone and the battery, causing them to reset. A power cycle be the solution to many common problems, including lags, loss of Internet access, frozen apps and functions or a phone that will not turn on. Some proponents of power cycling also assert that doing a power cycle on a regular basis will extend the life and efficiency of your phone's battery.
Step 1
Charge the phone completely. Once it the battery icon is full, unplug the charger and turn off the phone.
Step 2
Flip the phone over and remove the battery compartment cover. You can do this on most Android phones by sliding it off with your thumb.
Step 3
Remove the battery. This is usually accomplished by putting your fingernail into the small notch at the top of the battery compartment and prying the battery out of the phone.
Step 4
Leave the battery out for one minute. This gives both the battery and the phone time to completely dissipate any remaining charge.
Step 5
Replace the battery and the cover. Make sure the battery lays flat in its compartment or the cover will not close properly.
Step 6
Plug in the charger. The phone will display a battery icon and the word "Charging."
Step 7
Wait for the phone to charge completely and then turn it back on.
