How to: Factory Restore Without a Disk on a Dell Inspiron 1521 Laptop

The Dell Inspiron 1521 business or personal use laptop computer equipped with an AMD 2.2 GHz processor. The 1521 was manufactured with the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system installed. The computer comes with a system restore disc that can be used to easily restore the computer to factory settings. If the disc is no longer available, an alternative method full system restore can still be accomplished on the computer.

  • Restart the Dell Inspiron 1521 computer. If it is off, turn it on.

  • Press the "F8" key repeatedly as soon as the Dell logo appears on the screen until the "Advanced Boot Options" screen appears.

  • Press the down arrow key to highlight "Repair Your Computer." Press "Enter."

  • Highlight the desired language if it is something other than English. Click "Next."

  • Enter the administrator username and password, if prompted. Click "OK."

  • Click "Dell Factory Image Restore." Click "Next."

  • Click the checkbox next to "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system to factory condition." Click "Next."

  • Click "Finish" on the confirmation screen after the restore process is complete. The computer restarts.

Tips & Warnings

  • Running a factory restore erases all data that has been added to the computer by the user.
