Cleaning a nose piercing on a daily basis eases pain around the area and accelerates the piercing's healing time; it can also prevent infection. Using body soaps or harsh cleaners burns your skin and also slows down the healing process. Sea salt is a product strong to ease pain and clean out the piercing, yet gentle enough not to cause skin irritation around the area. Just a small amount of sea salt each day keeps the piercing healthy and you free of pain.

Clean your hands thoroughly before starting. This will help to prevent infection.

Heat 1 cup of distilled water in a microwave oven or on a stove until the water is hot, yet still comfortable to touch.

Mix sea salt into the water. The Visions Tattoo Gallery and Infinite Body websites both recommend using approximately ¼ tsp, or a “pinch,” of sea salt. Stir the salt into the water.

Stick your nose inside the cup so the piercing is fully saturated. Then, breathe in through your mouth and out through your nose so you blow bubbles into the cup. Do this for roughly 5 minutes. Skip this step and move on Step 5 if your nose does not fit into the cup. Otherwise, skip directly to Step 6.

Soak a cotton ball in the solution. Squeeze excess water from the ball. Then, hold the ball on the piercing for 5 to 10 minutes.

Rinse the area by splashing distilled water on your face. Pat the area dry with clean soft cloths.

Tip

Rinse the area twice a day (For example right when you wake up and then right before going to sleep) to avoid infections and speed up healing time.

Inspect the piercing on a daily basis. Consult a physician if you notice swelling or excess redness around the area, as these are signs of an infection.
