How to Get Rid of Black Fly Bites

Save

Flies are not typically thought of as being dangerous to humans. However, several variants, such as the black fly, bite and can spread infection to humans. Some of the diseases that black flies can transmit include malaria and Lyme disease. The most common symptoms of a fly bite are pain and swelling around the bitten area. It is also possible to have a severe allergic reaction , which could include severe swelling and itching. There are several options available to treat black fly bites.

  • Wash the bitten area with soap and warm water. This will help to prevent infection from setting in. Also avoid scratching the bite hard enough to break the skin, as this could also create an infection.

  • Purchase a soothing ointment that contains an antihistamine ingredient and apply it to all affected areas. This will reduce the itching as well as any skin irritation and pain. Calamine lotion is a good alternative for this kind of relief.

  • See a doctor if you experience a severe reaction to the bite. This could indicate an allergy that requires medical treatment. If you have a known allergy to these kinds of bites, consider asking your doctor for an epi-pen. This will allow you to treat yourself for the bite and give yourself more time to get to a doctor.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can avoid these bites by using insect repellent and staying away from areas with a lot of standing water. These areas breed flies and mosquitoes.
