How to Change Format in Microsoft Word

When you save a document in Microsoft Word 2010, the program saves the document as a Word document, or .docx, by default. To change the file format, you need to click "Save as Type" and select a new file format every time you save a document. Alternatively, you can change the default format. This is particularly beneficial if you frequently use another format, such as a Word template (.dotx) or Web page (.html).

  • Open "Microsoft Word 2010."

  • Click the "Office" button in the top left corner, and click "Options."

  • Click the "Save" tab.

  • Click the drop-down menu next to "Save Files inThis Format," and select the format that you want to use as the default.

  • Click "OK" to save your changes.
