How Do People Make Kites With Paper & Sticks?
A kite is a great summertime toy for kids. One great way to introduce your child to kites is by teaching them how to make one from paper and sticks. This will save money and allow your child to experiment with their own kite designs.
Instructions

1
Find two sticks that are relatively straight and different lengths.
-
2
Make a cross with the two sticks. Place the shorter stick horizontally across the longer one.
-
-
3
Tie the two sticks together by wrapping string around the point where they intersect. After you are finished, the sticks should form right angles with each other.
-
4
Cut a notch at both ends of each stick. Take the beginning of the string and secure it to the first end of the first stick by wrapping it through the notch. Then stretch the string to the next notch and secure it to that one by wrapping it through the notch several times. Do this for the remaining two sides and cut off any excess string. At this point, the outline of the kite should be formed by the string.
-
5
Lay the paper on the floor and place the kite frame on top. Cut around the frame and leave a two to three inch margin. Fold the edges of the cutout over the string frame and tape or glue it down. At this point, the paper should be tightly secured to the kite frame.
-
6
Get a piece of string that is approximately three feet long to the kite. Tie one end of the string to the stick at the top of the kite and the other end of the string to the bottom of the kite. Then, tie a loop in the string above the intersection of the two sticks. This is called the bridle and is where the string used to fly the kite will be attached to this loop.
-
7
Attach the flying line to the loop in the kites bridle. Your kite is now ready to fly.

Tips & Warnings
Try changing a different aspect of the kite, such as weight distribution, size of the kite or even the type of paper, each time you make one. This will allow you to experiment with different designs and find one that suits you.
