How to Put Volume Control on Your Desktop

Computers running the Windows operating system come pre-installed with a volume control feature that allows users to easily manage the sound level. By default, the volume control icon resides in the notification area located in the bottom-right of the screen. The icon may have gone missing from the taskbar in which users may wish to create a shortcut to the volume control on the desktop. Double-clicking the shortcut from the desktop quickly launches the volume control window.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click an empty area of the desktop and click "New" and then "Shortcut." The Create Wizard launches.

    • 2

Click the "Browse" button next to "Type the location of the item."

    • 3

Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\SndVol.exe." The C: drive is the default location for the operating system but may be different depending on computer manufacture and model.

    • 4

Enter a name for your shortcut in the "Type a name for this shortcut" and click "Finish." The volume control icon appears on the desktop.
