A laptop is made to travel but the portable computer can sustain wear and tear and even permanent damage. The laptop's processor and its screen are separate components, so the computer can function with a broken monitor. Hooking your laptop to a television screen would allow you to access the files on your laptop in a pinch.
Things You'll Need
- HDMI cable
- DVI cable
- VGA cable
- S Cable
Plug either an HDMI, VGA, DVI or S-video cable into your laptop. Your choice of cable depends on the input ports of both the laptop and the TV.
Plug the other end of the cable into the appropriate input on the TV.
Press the appropriate input button on the TV's remote. This will display the device connected to the TV -- in this case, the laptop -- from the selected output. Turn on the laptop and the computer will detect the TV as a monitor during the boot-up process.
