How to Import Safari Favorites From a PC to a Mac

Apple's Web browser, Safari, was originally designed for the Mac OS X operating system but is also available for Windows. Safari's bookmark feature, which helps you keep track of your favorite Web pages, is compatible with both platforms. This means that if you decide to switch to a Mac, you can import your Safari favorites from your PC.

      Open Safari on your PC. Click "File" from the top menu bar, and then click "Export" bookmarks. Browse and click a destination on your computer and click the "Export" button.

      Open the location with your exported file. Plug the portable USB drive into a USB port on your computer. Drag and drop the file onto the USB drive. Eject the drive and plug it into your Mac. Drag and drop the exported file onto your Mac desktop. You can also email the files to yourself if you prefer. To save the attachment from an email, open Apple Mail and click the "Save" button in the message window of the email with the file.

      Click the "Safari" icon in your dock to open the application on your Mac. Alternatively, you can also access Safari through your "Applications" folder.

      Click "File" from the top menu bar, and then click "Import Bookmarks." Click the bookmarks file from your PC, and then click the "Import" button. Your bookmarks will appear in the "Imported" folder.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can select folders from your "Imported" bookmarks folder and drag and drop them directly into the left column of the "Bookmarks" window.
