How to Cut French Bread
French bread has a crunchy exterior but is soft and chewy inside. You can cut the bread using several methods depending on what you want to do with the bread. It can be used for sandwiches, homemade garlic bread or as just toast with jam. When slicing through most breads, a serrated knife is best because it can cut through crunchy exteriors but won't crush the soft interior. Does this Spark an idea?

For slices, take a serrated knife and cut the bread into discs, width-wise beginning from one end to the other. Hold the bread with one hand and slice with the other. Slice the bread at an angle for a more polished look. Toast each piece and add your favorite topping for a quick bruschetta.

For garlic bread, use the serrated knife to slice it in half lengthwise so you have a top and bottom to the bread. Hold the top of the bread with your palm flat to stabilize it. Cut through the middle of the bread in a sawing motion until you go all the way through.

For a sandwich, take the knife and cut the bread horizontally to make two halves, top and bottom, but leave it attached along one of the long sides to form a hinge. This way you can flip the top of the bread back over after you have filled it with something like a sandwich filling.
