Instructions

    • 1

Make 51 chain stitches. Make a single crochet stitch in the second chain and in each chain across; this will establish the width of your shawl.

    • 2

Chain one and turn; single crochet in each stitch across for a total of 50 single crochet stitches.

    • 3

Chain three and turn; this initial set of three chain stitches counts as the first double crochet of your row. Make a double crochet in the second single crochet from the previous row and in each stitch across.

    • 4

Chain one and turn. Single crochet in each double crochet across the row.

    • 5

Repeat steps two, three and four until your shawl reaches the desired length. Finish off with a slip stitch, cut your working yarn and weave in all of your loose ends with a large-eye blunt needle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make your shawl wider by adding more chain stitches to step one; make it narrower by making fewer chain stitches.

  • Use this pattern to make a lightweight shawl by using crochet cotton thread and a size US G crochet hook. In this case, you may need to add more chain stitches at the beginning to make it wide enough.
