How to Add Text AutoShape in Word 2007

Adding a text box shape in Microsoft Word 2007 provides you with flexibility of placing blocks of text anywhere in a document. You can create a text boxes that quotes text, captions an image or table or calls attention to key points of text. Along with text boxes, you can add text to any AutoShape. Fill color, line style, font, shadow effects and 3-D effects can also be applied to a text box or AutoShape.

      Insert a text box by clicking "Text Box" on the Insert tab in the Text group. The text box is placed near the location of your cursor.

      Insert an AutoShape by choosing a shape from the "Shapes" drop-down button in the Illustrations group. Click and drag your mouse until the shape is the desired size. To draw a perfectly symmetrical shape, press the "Shift" key on your keyboard while you click and drag.

      Add text to an AutoShape by right-clicking on the shape and selecting "Add Text."

Tips & Warnings

  • Change the font by clicking one time on the shape to select it and applying formatting changes found in the Font Group on the Home tab, such as bolding the font, changing the color, changing the font style, and increasing the font size.

  • Change the style of the shape by clicking one time on the shape and choosing a pre-formatted shape style from the Styles group on the Formatting tab. This applies multiple formatting changes with just one click, like fill, border color, and shadow effect. These items can also be applied individually by selecting them from the Style group.
