Teach children to give to God.

No one has to tell children what to do with their allowance or monetary gifts. Often before the money can make it to their pockets or wallets, they've made plans to spend it. Children should enjoy spending their money, but they should be encouraged to be good stewards of their money, too. As children learn more about God and teachings about offerings and tithing, they will want to become joyful givers.

Instructions

    • 1

Explain to the students what the Bible says about giving an offering and tithing. Use the following scriptures: 2 Corinthians 9:7, Proverbs 3:9-10, and Malachi 3:10. Explain that an offering is what a person decides to give and a tithe is ten percent of a person's income.

    • 2

Demonstrate the concepts using ten apples and a fruit bowl. Have students count the apples together. Tell them if they were going to tithe using the apples, God would only expect to receive one apple, which would be the tithe. Place the apple in the bowl.

    • 3

Tell students from the nine apples remaining, they would make an offering. Ask students to decide on how many apples they will offer to God. Place the amount in the bowl.

    • 4

Give ten pennies or ten one-dollar bills to a student. Ask him how many pennies or dollars he would have to give as a tithe. The answer is one penny or one dollar. Have the child place the tithe in an offering plate.

    • 5

Discuss with children that they can tithe or make an offering using their own money.
