How to Knit the Finished End of an Afghan
Put the finishing touches on a knitted afghan by binding off the stitches at the afghan's edge to create a neat, finished look that won't unravel. Binding off, also known as casting off, should be done in the same stitch as the rest of the afghan. Bind off using knit stitches for a garter stitch afghan; bind off using purl stitches for a reverse stockinette stitch afghan. Use a mixture of knit and purl bind off stitches for a ribbed afghan.

1
Knit or purl two stitches from the left needle onto the right needle.
-
2
Place the tip of the left needle through the front of the first stitch on the right needle. Draw that stitch over the second stitch on the right needle and let it drop off the right needle. One stitch will remain on the right needle.
-
-
3
Knit or purl one more stitch onto the right needle so that there are two stitches on the right needle again.
-
4
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you have one stitch left on the right needle and no stitches on the left needle.
-
5
Cut the yarn leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the yarn onto the yarn needle and draw it through the last stitch on the right knitting needle. Pull tightly letting the stitch drop off of the right needle.
