Application for citizenship in Sweden is known in the United States as naturalization. To apply for citizenship you must meet certain application requirements. Chief among these requirements is a physical presence inside Sweden. You must enter Sweden legally and live there for a period of time, which is generally five years. That time requirement can be reduced if you qualify in a special category such as a stateless person, a former Swedish citizen or a current citizen of a country in the Nordic Council.
