How to Install a DSL AT&T Modem Without a Phone Line

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) provides digital data transmission over telephone lines. Advances in technology have made it possible for AT&T to offer DSL phone service with or without home phone service. AT&T offers four different speeds of DSL service with varying prices. AT&T DSL without phone service offers the same speeds as DSL service without home phones. Setting up your service may take up to 60 minutes to complete.

      Connect the Data Cable provided with your device to a telephone wall jack in your home and to the DSL port on the back of your Internet modem.

      Connect the yellow Ethernet cable provided with your modem to the back of your DSL modem and to the Ethernet port on the back of your computer.

      Plug the power adapter for your modem into a power outlet in your home. Your modem will begin to power on. Allow all the lights to turn green and become solid accept the activity light. The activity light will flicker to notify you that your device is functioning properly.

      Open a Web browser on your computer and allow the registration process to begin. If the registration does not start automatically, navigate to the AT&T registration website and enter your account number, create a user name and password, and establish account security. The registration process may take up to 15 minutes to complete. After your registration is complete, you will be ready to connect to the Internet.
