How to Create Titles for Premiere Pro Using Photoshop

Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the major video editing applications on the market. Its tools and features put it on a par with other video editing programs like Avid or Final Cut Pro. One function that Premiere includes is the New Title utility, which lets you create and add titles to your videos. Unfortunately, this title creator is not quite as versatile as some users might require. If you need advanced freestyle tittles like those for an animation video, you will have to import them from another application like Adobe Photoshop.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog box that appears, enter the width and height you want for the titles. Set the "Background Contents" to "Transparent" and click "OK."

    • 2

Select the "Pen" tool from the toolbar on the left. In the options at the top, set the mode to "Shape" layer. Choose the color you want for your title.

    • 3

Use the tool to draw in the letters for your titles. To do this, click with the tool to add points that define the shapes of the letters. Drag as you add the points to adjust the shape of the lines between the points.

    • 4

Go to the "Layers" panel and click on the "FX" tool to add effects like "Drop Shadow" or "Bevel and Emboss" to your titles.

    • 5

Select "File" from the menu and click "Save." In the dialog, name your titles file and save it as a PSD file.

    • 6

Open Premiere Pro. In the dialog that appears, open the project you want to add the title to. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." Browse to and import your titles file. It will appear in the project bin at the upper left; then you can drag it to the location you desire in the time line.
