How to Dry Stuffed Animals

Drying out your stuffed animals requires little effort.

From part of your collection to loyal companion, stuffed animals are endeared by both young and old. If your favorite plush companion was caught outside in the rain or decided to jump in the bath with you, the residual dampness can make your stuffed animal not nearly as enjoyable to hug. Drying stuffed animals is a simple process that can protect you and your favorite toy from the potential hazard of mildew.

Instructions

1. Expel as much moisture from the stuffed animal as possible by squeezing it gently with your hands.

2. Brush the fur with a hairbrush to prevent it from matting.

3. Set the stuffed animal outside in the sunshine to dry.

4. Allow the stuffed animal to sit in the sunshine for 3 to 4 hours so it has time to dry inside and out.

5. Brush the fur again once it is dry to separate any fibers that may have stuck together.

Tips & Warnings

• If the weather isn't sunny, place the stuffed animal in a room with a fan or dehumidifier to help it dry.

• If you use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process, use a low to medium heat setting, not high.

• Some stuffed animals can be placed in the dryer on low or medium heat. Read the manufacturer's care instructions first to be sure.

• Do not store your stuffed animal or keep it in a dark place until it is thoroughly dried or mildew may accumulate inside.
