Clinique is a name that is synonymous with clean, allergen-free makeup. The all-white interiors of their makeup counters are present in 135 countries. Though they have recently started making the move to more self-service counters, the lab-coat-wearing Clinique consultants are ever-present for customer assistance. Career-seekers looking for entry into the beauty industry, or those who have a penchant for making things pretty, will flourish as consultants at the Clinique counter.
Clinique's website asks that candidates have some sales experience and at least a high school degree. Former direct-sales agents such as Avon and Mary Kay agents may have an advantage in this area. Most Clinique counters are inside of major department stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom’s and Dillard’s. Interested candidates may need to submit an application to the store and indicate their preference for the Clinique counter. The Clinique website also posts openings for consultants and has an online application process.
From its early beginnings in 1968, Clinique has aligned its brand to dermatology. In fact, a dermatologist is responsible for helping Evelyn Lauder develop the brand. So, the company makes sure that consultants receive comprehensive training. In London, the brand operates a three-tiered Consultant Education Program with three accreditation levels. Once hired, consultants learn the tools of the trade from the Counter Education Manager. As the consultant becomes well-versed on the products, there is the opportunity to advance to counter manager or regional educator.
