How to Remove a CMOS Battery in a Gateway 7422
All Gateway 7422 laptops have a CMOS battery to power the motherboard when the computer is turned off or unplugged. In most Gateway laptops the CMOS battery is attached to the motherboard with a clip wire.

Unplug your Gateway 7422 laptop and remove all wires from the laptop, such as the power supply cable.

Close your Gateway 7422 laptop and turn it over so that you can see the base of the computer.

Unscrew the screws that hold the base cover in place. Remove the base cover and locate the CMOS battery. The CMOS battery is a small, silver color object the size of a dime. It is covered in black plastic in Gateway laptops with three small white cables and a clip at the end of the cable.

Unplug the CMOS battery by clicking open the small white plastic clip that attaches the CMOS battery to the motherboard.

Open the CMOS battery holder with your fingernails or by using a knife. Take care not to break any parts of the holder. If you cannot open the holder or if it is molded you may need to buy a new battery case altogether in a computer store.

Plug the CMOS battery back in, screw back the base cover and restart the laptop.
