Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your Gateway 7422 laptop and remove all wires from the laptop, such as the power supply cable.

    • 2

Close your Gateway 7422 laptop and turn it over so that you can see the base of the computer.

    • 3

Unscrew the screws that hold the base cover in place. Remove the base cover and locate the CMOS battery. The CMOS battery is a small, silver color object the size of a dime. It is covered in black plastic in Gateway laptops with three small white cables and a clip at the end of the cable.

    • 4

Unplug the CMOS battery by clicking open the small white plastic clip that attaches the CMOS battery to the motherboard.

    • 5

Open the CMOS battery holder with your fingernails or by using a knife. Take care not to break any parts of the holder. If you cannot open the holder or if it is molded you may need to buy a new battery case altogether in a computer store.

    • 6

Plug the CMOS battery back in, screw back the base cover and restart the laptop.
