Use blue crabs as fishing bait.

Blue crabs, which are commonly known for their blueish green color, are often used for bait when fishing. Blue crab, which are treated as bait for grouper, cobia and hog snapper fish, are often kept whole or broken in half before being placed on the hook. While live crab work best for bait when fishing, you can also choose to use previously frozen blue crab.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the blue crab so the stomach of the crab is on the palm of your hand. Take care to keep your fingers out of the way of the crabs' claws, if still attached.

    • 2

Match the sides of the hook to the left or right side of the crab. Hold the crab firmly in place and push the hook up from the stomach side of the crab to the top. Make sure that the hook comes out the top left or right side of the shell.

    • 3

Grip the base of the hook and push it up until you have a sturdy fit. Hold the crab from the hook and make sure that there is a firm connection. The crab should still be alive if you've used a live crab.
