How to Set a Static IP Via the Menu on an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909 normally uses a default setting to automatically configure the Internet Protocol settings for the printer, making the printer more user friendly to those who are not familiar with networks. Advanced network users, though, can manually set the IP address, as well as the subnet mask and default gateway, instead of letting the printer set the values automatically. Setting a static IP address will help resolve conflicts with the firewall on the network, according to HP.

  • Press the "Power" button on the printer's control panel so the button illuminates. Wait for the printer's control panel to read "Ready" before continuing.

  • Press the "Setup" button on the control panel. Use the arrow buttons to highlight "Network" and then press the "OK" button.

  • Use the arrow buttons to highlight "Advanced Setup" and press "OK." Select "IP Settings" using the arrow keys and press "OK." Then select "Manual IP Settings" using the arrow buttons and press "OK" again.

  • Press the "1" button on the control panel to select "IP Address." Type in the IP address you wish to set using the numeric keypad on the printer. Press the "Done" button when you have finished.
