How Do You Copy a DVD?
When using a data DVD, you might find it necessary to copy the information from the disc onto another DVD (or even your hard drive). This gives you an additional copy of the data stored on the disc. Although there are some programs that allow you to copy purchased movie DVDs, this process is illegal as it is a breach of the copyright. Avoid this and stick to copying data DVDs created on your computer that does not contain copy-protected material.

1
Insert the DVD into the disc drive of your computer, then exit out the AutoPlay window that appears on your screen.

2
Click "Start," "Computer" and double-click the DVD icon. This loads a window with all the files currently stored on the disc.

3
Click and drag over all the files to highlight the files on the DVD. Once selected, click one of the highlighted files and drag it to the computer's desktop. This copies the information directly to the computer's hard drive.
-
4
Insert a blank DVD into the computer's DVD burner, close out the AutoPlay window and launch Windows Media Player.
-
5
Click "Burn," then "Data DVD." Click the "X" next to the burn list. This removes files stored from a previous burn. Click and drag the copied files into the open window, then click "Start Burn" to create a copy of the DVD onto the new disc.
