How to Trim FLV Files Online

Save

An FLV file is a Flash video. While there are numerous examples of video editing programs that can trim FLV files, users can avoid software installation all together by using an online service. YouTube, JayCut and Video Toolbox are just some websites that make it possible for users to edit media within their Internet browser.

YouTube

  • Launch an Internet browser and go to the YouTube website. Create a user account by completing the free registration.

  • Click the "Upload" link. Locate the FLV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click "Open" to submit the video to the online service. Program a title and description for the clip and click the "Save Changes" button.

  • Go to the "YouTube Editor" page. The uploaded FLV file will appear under the camera icon tab. Drag the media onto the storyboard section. Move the cursor over the clip and select the scissor icon. A clip editor screen will load.

  • Drag the "in" and "out" points on the clip timeline and place them at the beginning and end of the segment you want to keep. The segment that is not highlighted will be removed from the video.

  • Click the "Save" button to trim the FLV file. The trimmed video will be posted on YouTube.

JayCut

  • Launch an Internet browser and go to the JayCut website. Create a user account by completing the free registration.

  • Click the "Add Media" icon and a pop-up window will appear. Choose "My Computer" and click "Next". Click "Browse" and locate the FLV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click "Open". Click "Upload" to submit the video for editing.

  • Drag the imported FLV file from the "Video" tab onto the clip timeline.

  • Click the scissor icon. Place the cursor on the clip timeline and click the beginning and end of the segment you want to delete. Remove the segment by dragging it into the "Trash" section.

  • Click "Save" and select "Publish/Download Movie." Follow the onscreen instructions to publish the trimmed FLV file online or save it to your computer.

Video Toolbox

  • Launch an Internet browser and go to the Video Toolbox website. Create a user account by completing the free registration.

  • Click "File Manager" under the "Main Menu" tab. Click "Browse" and locate the FLV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click "Open". Click "Upload" to submit the video for editing.

  • Check the box next to the listing for the imported FLV file. Open the "Select action" drop-down menu and choose "Cut/Split File". The homepage will redirect to a clip editor page.

  • Drag the "in" and "out" points on the clip timeline and place them at the beginning and end of any segment you want to remove.

  • Click "Cut Slice (Same Format)". The clip editor page will redirect to a file download page when the video has been modified. Follow the onscreen instructions to save the trimmed FLV file to your computer.
