How to Get a Dial-up Modem to Work on a Dell D630 Laptop
The Dell Latitude D630 is a Windows-based computer that is equipped with several connection options for Internet access. Wireless and Ethernet-based connections are present when you purchase the computer and you can add a dial-up feature also. This is done with the PC Express Card expansion slot on the side of the computer. Once you have a land-line-based connection installed, you can access the Internet over your local telephone line.

Eject the PC Express expansion card slot protector from the left side of the Dell D630. Push the protector in to unlock the card, then slide the protector out.

Insert the telephone adapter into the open PC Express expansion card slot until it locks into place.

Insert the driver installation CD into the CD-DVD drive of the computer. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to install the driver.

Install a dial-up service application. You can sign up for service and download the appropriate program from a dial-up provider, such as NetZero or Juno. Once the program is on your computer, double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the software.

Insert the telephone cable into the dial-up modem's "Out" port. Insert the opposite end into the "In" port on the telephone adapter on the Dell D630. Launch the installed dial-up software, choose a local connection number and click "Connect."
