Clip coupons for everything you use. In most locales, the Sunday newspaper includes the most coupons. Coupon use may seem tedious at first, but the financial benefits will be apparent in the long run. Coupons even may encourage you to try new brands. For example, if you swear by name-brand paper towels but the store brand is more than $1 cheaper, it may be worth trying the store version.

Take advantage of rewards programs. Many stores have rewards cards that fit on your key chain and you can swipe every time you check out. Along with your receipt, you also receive coupons. Save these and especially be mindful of their expiration dates.

Pay attention to coupons and special promotions in the mail. Although you may be in the habit of discarding such items, they may prove valuable. Mailers typically include savings for businesses conveniently located near you.

Focus on the final numbers. Some coupons or advertisements are worded creatively to attract buyers but may not offer as much savings as a basic on-sale item. Don't be confused by appealing claims or "markdowns" unless the actual discounted amount is a worthwhile amount to you.
