Decaying teeth may eventually fall out.

Humans develop two sets of teeth during their lives. The first group of teeth are called the deciduous, or baby teeth. They are typically small, white and the immature mouth will only have 20. As the jaw matures, these small "baby" teeth are replaced with larger permanent teeth of which there are 32. During all phases of tooth life, tooth decay prevention is recommended to preserve their strength and health.

Instructions

  1. Brushing

    • 1

Wet your toothbrush with cool water and apply toothpaste that contains fluoride to the bristles. Fluoride strengthens teeth, thereby making them more durable.

    • 2

Brush your teeth for one to two minutes daily. Move the toothbrush back and forth across the tops of teeth, then brush the tops and side. Spit out the toothpaste and saliva.

    • 3

Rinse out your mouth with a mouthwash that contains fluoride. Brush your teeth twice a day after meals.

    Calcium Foods

    • 4

Eat calcium-rich foods like milk, cheese and yogurt daily. Calcium strengthens teeth.

    • 5

Add fresh fruits and vegetables to your daily menu for better gum health. These foods contain vitamins A and C, important ingredients for good gum health.

    • 6

Drink a cup or glass of tea a day. Tea is a good source of natural fluoride. Avoid loading your tea with sugar, which can harm the teeth.

    • 7

Eat a serving of whole wheat at least once daily. Whole wheat contains vitamin B and iron, also important vitamins for good dental health.

Tips & Warnings

  • Floss your teeth every day to remove hidden food in the teeth.

  • Visit your dentist once a year to have your teeth cleaned.

  • Avoid sticky, sugary foods that cling to your teeth and weaken them.
