How to Set Up a Philips US2-PH61148 A/V System Selector

When hooking up a home entertainment system, there never seems to be enough jacks to go around on the back of the TV. The Philips US2-PH61148 is a solution to this problem. It can accept audio and video input from up to four devices, and output them over a single connection. It does not require any power source, and once the cables are connected, the user can switch between the different devices by pressing the buttons on top.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify the type of AV cables you will be using for your equipment. Composite video has a single yellow cable for video. Component has red/green/blue cables for video. S-video uses a single black cable. All three connections use standard red/white stereo cables.

    • 2

Look at the back of the US2-PH61148. You will see the output jacks on the left, in the section labeled "Output". The sections to the right are for input, and are labeled "INPUT 1" through "INPUT 4".

    • 3

Plug the AV cables leading from your devices into the "INPUT" jacks on the back of the US2-PH61148. The cables and jacks are color coded. Plug the cable into the jack that's the same color.

    • 4

Plug the audio and video cables leading to your TV into the jacks under the "OUTPUT" section. Plug the cables into the jack of the same color.

    • 5

Power on your TV and devices and test the connections by pressing the corresponding "OUTPUT" button on top of the US2-PH61148.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's easy to lose track of which cable belongs to which device. Consider labeling the cables using a marker and a piece of masking tape.

  • Make sure to plug the cables for the same device into the jacks under the same "INPUT" section. If you plug the video cable or cables for your DVD player into the jack or jacks under "INPUT 2", then the audio cables would also be plugged in under "INPUT 2".
