Disable the Skype feature that highlights phone numbers if you don't use the numbers.

Skype offers a toolbar for Microsoft Office applications. The toolbar recognizes phone numbers and highlights them, depending on the settings, so you and others viewing the document can make Skype calls directly from the Word file. You must download the Skype Office Toolbar if you want to use the number highlighting feature. If you downloaded the toolbar and have decided you don't want to highlight numbers or just want to disable the feature for one document, you can uninstall the toolbar or temporarily turn off the number highlighting.

Instructions

  1. Disable for Single Document

    • 1

      Open Microsoft Word.

    • 2

Click on the "Skype" tab at the end of the Microsoft Office ribbon, which is the list of options at the top of your document. Skype is last in the list of options.

    • 3

Ensure "Highlight Numbers" is not selected under "Skype Actions." This option is the second choice in the first set of Skype functions, listed under "Skype Actions." If it is selected, it appears orange. If it is not selected, it has the same blue background as the rest of the options.

    • 4

Verify "Create Skype links" is not selected in the "Skype Links" category. This is listed in the second list of functions under "Skype links." It appears with a small pointer hand and says "Create Skype links." If it is selected, you will notice an option that says "Remove Skype links" under the button to create links. Click the "Remove Skype links" button to clear any links.

    Uninstall Skype Office Toolbar

    • 5

Go to the "Start" menu, which is represented by the Windows icon, and select "Control Panel."

    • 6

      Click "Programs and Features."

    • 7

Scroll through the list of programs until you find "Skype Toolbar for Microsoft Office."

    • 8

Click the program, and choose "Uninstall" from your options at the top of the list.

    • 9

Select "OK" when asked if you are sure you want to uninstall the program.
