Mac laptops are meant to let you take the Mac experience with you on the go. Like any laptop, however, Mac laptops must be shut down from time to time to preserve battery life. If you want to shut down your Mac laptop, you can do so in a few simple steps.
Click the "Apple" icon in the computer's Menu Bar. It is located in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Select the "Shut Down" option from the Apple menu.
Click the "Shut Down" button when prompted to shut down the computer.
Tips & Warnings
- If the computer is completely locked up and you are unable to shut it down using the Apple menu, you can perform a hard shutdown by holding down the Power button for five seconds. Only do this as a last resort, though, as you may lose unsaved data in open applications.
