How to Get Clients to Refer You
One of the hardest parts of running a small business or working as a freelancer is finding new clients. Good clients can be hard to come by and getting your name out there can be a struggle, especially if clients are not necessarily looking for new help. Having your existing clients refer you to potential new clients is incredibly effective, as they usually do so with glowing reviews and personal recommendations. The value of a client referral cannot be underestimated, so you should make obtaining these referrals a high priority.

1
Deliver your work on time, as promised. If you expect a client to refer you, you will need to follow through on your promises and keep deadlines.
-
2
Turn in excellent work on every project. Clients are more likely to refer you if everything you do is perfectly executed.
-
-
3
Be nice. No matter how amazing your work may be, people do not like dealing with a jerk. If you are always polite and friendly clients will feel better about recommending you to friends.
-
4
Provide a free consultation to new clients. This gives your current clients an easier way to bring up your services, as their friends will not need to immediately spend money to test your services.
-
5
Develop a referral incentive system. For example, offer clients a 10 percent discount on their next order if they refer you to a friend and that person orders some of your services.
-
6
Ask clients that praise your work if they would not mind recommending you. It can feel awkward but people who are happy with your abilities usually do not mind passing the word along.
-
7
Become a master of communication. Respond to emails quickly, answer your phone when it rings, and follow up with old and new clients alike. Clients love providers that are reachable and available.
