How to Harden Taffy
Taffy is relatively simple to make and typically includes boiled water, sugar and corn syrup, plus additional flavors as desired. After you make taffy, the substance is hot and liquefied. Before you can eat your taffy, it needs to harden. With a little time and patience, you can harden taffy to its normal chewy consistency or you can let it get even harder for a different take on this classic treat. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove your taffy from heat after the sugar and syrups are melted into the water.
-
2
Stir in other flavorings as called for by your individual recipe, such as butter or salt.

3
Pour the mixture into a buttered pan. Wait for the mixture to cool for about 10 to 15 minutes. Taffy hardens as it cools. In most cases, taffy is thick and cool enough to handle after 10 to 15 minutes, but you can let it sit longer for extra-hard taffy.

4
Pull and stretch the cooled taffy. Pulling on your taffy as it hardens creates taffy's chewy texture. You can stop pulling once the taffy's color becomes visibly lighter.
