How to Make an iPhone Silent & Not Ring

Save

Your Apple iPhone enjoys a number of ringtone options. In addition to using the tones that come default on the device, you can download a ringtone of a favorite song from iTunes and use it as your ringtone. If you are attending a meeting, class or just don't want to be interrupted, silence the ringtone on your iPhone. A switch on the side of the phone affords quick silence, or you can use the screen to put iPhone in silent mode.

  • Flip the "Ring/Silent" switch on the top left side of the iPhone to the "Silent" position. The phone is in "Silent" mode when the switch is flipped to the left and an orange dot appears next to the switch.

  • Go to the "Settings" application and tap "Sounds."

  • Put your finger on the gray circle on the "Ringer and Alerts" slider and move the circle all the way to the left. When no blue remains on the slider, the phone is on silent mode.

  • Turn off tones for email by toggling the icons next to each feature to the "Off" position. Toggle an icon by tapping it once; the word "Off" appears. To turn off tones for text messages, tap "Text Tone," and choose "None" at the bottom of the screen.
