How to Can Cherry Cobbler
Cherry cobbler makes a tasty dessert made of sweetened, fresh or dried, pitted cherries topped with biscuits, scones or crumble dough and baked. Things You'll Need
- 2 large metal pans with lids
- Canning jars
- Fresh, pitted cherries
- Sugar
- Cinnamon (optional)
- Jar lifter
- Thick dishcloth
- Paper napkins
- Boiling water canner

Rinse canning jars. Prepare the lids and bands to keep the lids secure. Fill a large metal pan with water and bring to boil. Remove from the heat. Place the canning jars in the water to keep warm.

Wash the cherries and remove the pits. Cut the fruit in half. Place in the other metal pan. Add water and simmer until the cherries become soft. Stir occasionally to prevent the fruit from burning.

Remove the pan from heat and add the sugar. Taste with a spoon to check if the mixture is sweet enough according to your taste. Boil for one minute to melt the sugar. You can also add a cinnamon stick or powder to enhance the taste at this stage. Remove from the heat and leave to cool for one minute.

Take the canning jars from the pan with a jar lifter. Fill the cherry mixture holding the jars with a thick dishcloth till the mixture is 1/2-inch below the rim. Wipe the rim with a paper napkin. Close the jar with the lid and secure with the band.

Fill the boiling water canner halfway with clean water. Heat the canner to a temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the filled and closed cans with the jar lifter into the canner one after the other. Add more boiling water if the water level does not cover the jars. Cover the canner and leave to boil for 15 minutes.

Turn off the heat and open the canner. Remove the canning jars one after another with the jar lifter. Cool for 24 hours before refrigerating.
