1. Put your game face on. Get ready to see and be seen by sprucing up your look before you head out. No matter if you're popping into the supermarket or going out for drinks with the girls, be sure to dress to impress. That doesn't mean you must always glam up your look when you're simply picking up a sack of potatoes, but throw on a cute matching sweatsuit and ditch the ratty ponytail in case you cross paths with Mr. Right.

2. Begin your adventures naturally so that you're making small strides back into the dating world. Hit the gym early in the morning or late at night to catch the eye of serious fitness buffs. Prime time gym traffic may be filled with guys looking for hot girls instead of actually getting in a workout. Venture out during the odd hours to catch the quiet athlete and chat him up at the key rack before you leave.

3. Get an itch for that do-it-yourself project you've been dying to work on, and head to the hardware store or electronics shop. Plan an actual project where you can ask a few questions, take a peek at the guys in the store and make new friends. Speak their language only when you are confident of your topic to avoid coming off as a flake and desperate. Tackle one of your smaller tasks that you know you're capable of doing yourself such as extending the cabling for your sound system or purchasing a blower for your patio. Use the small task as a segue for your approach.

4. Use an unconventional time to head to the sports bar such as a Sunday afternoon or Thursday evening to find the sports enthusiasts and not the raving beer chasers. Sit at the bar instead of in your favorite booth and travel light; you don't need a pack of your best friends preventing him from catching your eye. Sit across the bar from single guys and ask a few their opinion on a new brew to try or an update on the last sports play.

5. Once you've made eye contact during any of your outings, smile and prepare to make a witty comment or ask an interesting question to gain and keep his attention. Don't overdo it; you'll still want him to take the lead in some areas. Be direct when flirting and chatting. Close the deal to set a date and ask for his help on your project or to join you for the next game or workout.
